Alzheimer’s International 2011, Year of Research on Alzheimer’s is an initiative organised by the Queen Sofía Foundation and the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, which is backed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Health and Social Policy, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Neurological Disease Research Centre Foundation and the Carlos III Health Institute.
This project is conceived to promote research on Alzheimer’s and related neurodegenerative diseases with a view to advancing our understanding of its causes, improving early diagnosis and finding effective treatments which reduce the number of people affected.
Alzheimer’s International 2011 is also a platform for experts and neuroscientists from around the world to generate ideas and exchange their experiences, as well as a public event which brings science closer to the people.
Note finally that the National Reference Centre for Alzheimer and dementia care, dependant on Imserso, coordinate public health research to be developed.
